Home and habitat of nature, Meghalaya never fails to put in awe anyone who sees even a small part of her. She is Mother Nature, with her lap full of disparate and valuable sets of FLORA and FAUNA, which are in huge numbers, deliberately attracting a mass of nature lovers over the years. The Khasis, The Garos, and The Jayantias comprise the major tribes of Meghalaya. They follow their own vibrant culture and usually earn their living dependent on local businesses and primarily on tourism opportunities.
Generally, when we explore the knowledge of citizens of other part of India about Meghalaya, the answer falls on the same plane, which is the indefinable existence of nature. But one thing that they scarcely know (or have zero knowledge about) is the matrilineal society that exists here.
Yes...........the dominance of the WOMEN over MEN and as the bearer of ancestral property.
It is a land where a girl child is celebrated more than a boy child; (possible?)
it is a land with no extreme dominion over a women's social life; (Hooooooooo)
it is a land where the HUSBAND lives with his WIFE at his in-laws place; (Burn Social Taboo)
it is a land with women having the power to take significant decisions back at home and also in running businesses along with decisions for the family; (Patriarchy?? WHAT??)
it is a land where women hold a pivotal role in the welfare of her parents and children; (Seriously??)
The scenario is quite the opposite to what the rest of India experiences naturally.
While men are being called as Finance Ministers; Women in India are labeled as Home Ministers of their respective families, which just remains a mockery in most cases for other parts of INDIA........
But in Meghalaya, WOMEN ARE THE ENTIRE CENTRAL MINISTRY.
Thinking of India, the existence of a woman dominated society among those having men predominantly as the family and property bearer since ages seem like a ‘bolt from the blue’, least expected. Meghalaya's very characteristic adds a spirited and happy color to the pre-occupied land of nature at its best which also let it stand out among numerous other Indian states.
I'M PROUD TO BELONG TO A LAND WITH ONE OF THE LARGEST SURVIVING MATRILINEAL CULTURE.
Wow..that's incredible ..!❤️ Unique India..❤️💞
